Job summary

Arup in Seattle seeks an experienced Design Manager to lead multidisciplinary design teams on major rail and transit projects across the western United States. You will partner with project leaders, engineers and contractors to deliver design packages on time, within budget, and aligned with client objectives.

The role emphasizes coordinating inputs from various disciplines, managing design interfaces, and driving quality and compliance across deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or a related field with 5–10 years delivering complex rail/transit projects.
• Experience in design management and coordination on large infrastructure projects, with understanding of design processes.
• Strong understanding of rail and transit project delivery, governance, procurement and delivery methods.
• Proven ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams to high-quality outcomes.
• Experience managing the review, production and submission of deliverables across many disciplines.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with clients, stakeholders and project teams.

Responsibilities

• Support leadership and coordination of multidisciplinary design teams on large rail projects.
• Communicate design progress and escalate issues with project leadership.
• Coordinate inputs from fire, facades, acoustics, security, and assurance into design packages.
• Lead design interfaces, risks and issues tracking and timely resolution.
• Deliver project drawings, reports, and specifications within budget and timelines.
• Coordinate design activities, procurement inputs, and construction interface support.
• Lead design coordination workshops and formal stage reviews with technical disciplines.
• Represent the team in client and stakeholder presentations.
• Monitor schedule, cost, and performance for assigned packages and escalate risks.
• Support design quality management and project controls as required.
• Contribute to business development, client engagement, bids and proposals.
