Job summary

Watco is hiring for a Conductor/Switchman to control and coordinate train movements during yard or industrial switching operations. The role requires reading switching orders, coordinating with the crew, and ensuring safe loading/unloading of railcars to serve customers.

This is a manual labor position with on-the-job training. The position offers an hourly pay rate of $22.00 and a 12-hour shift schedule (days or nights), 4 on 4 off.

Qualifications

• Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math.
• Must pass and obtain required certifications as needed for the position.
• Ability to follow directions, learn from instructions, and apply procedures with good judgment.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance.
• Follow written and verbal directions to complete tasks on schedule.
• Read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math.
• Read switching orders from designated person.
• Supervise and coordinate the activities of train crews.
• Receive switching orders and move cars to specified locations.
• Confer with the train dispatcher to obtain or relay information.
• Throw track switches to facilitate shunting and signal movements to the Engineer.
• May assist with switching operations and perform minor repairs as needed.
• Maintain records of cars switched, including origin, destination, and cargo.
