Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a Radiologic Technologist I to perform vital X-ray imaging for trauma, inpatients, and outpatients. You will work across East Newton or Harrison Avenue campuses, collaborating with the Radiology team to support BMC’s mission of exceptional and equitable care.

The role requires MA licensure and ARRT certification, with a part-time, per diem schedule. You will gain experience with cutting-edge imaging technology while maintaining patient safety and quality

Qualifications

  • Massachusetts radiologic technology licensure or eligibility is required before start date.
  • ARRT certification and registration must be current or obtained within the required timeframe.
  • Temporary MA license acceptable with plan to obtain permanent licensure within one year.
  • BLS/CPR certification is required or obtainable before start date.
  • Completion of a two-year post-high school radiologic technology program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic imaging studies with proper positioning and exposure to minimize dose.
  • Set up equipment and provide quality radiographs for radiologists and staff, following leadership directions.
  • Conduct exams on patients of all ages across Diagnostic Radiology locations as needed.
  • Maintain fastest possible turnaround time for ordered exams to reduce care delays.
  • Ensure exams match the clinical reason, patient presentation, and history.

Job description

Under general supervision of Technical Group Leadership and Chief Technologist Operations, the Radiologic Technologist provides skill and initiative to the department mission through interactions with staff, Chief Technologist and others as necessary. Primary duties are to work as a technologist on either East Newton or Harrison Avenue campus while also implementing policy and procedures as determined necessary through the Radiology Supervisor, Operations Manager and Radiology Administration Director.

Position Summary

As a BMC Radiologic Technologist, you will perform vital X‑ray imaging for all trauma, inpatients and outpatients. These images will assist our providers to accurately diagnose and care for our patients. You will gain a wide range of experience using cutting‑edge technology, while working collaboratively with other department staff and our own Radiology Team to help further BMC’s mission of providing exceptional care for all.

Job Responsibilities

Diagnostic Imaging

  • Perform appropriate studies in a timely manner, using proper positioning, technique and exposure factors as necessary and required, with a goal to use the lowest dose possible
  • Set up equipment, provide quality radiographs for radiologists and other colleagues, and perform other duties as requested by the X‑ray Lead, Supervisor, Manager, and Radiology Director
  • Perform exams on patients of all ages as required in all areas that Diagnostic Radiology is located and needed
  • Ensure best turnaround time for all ordered exams to reduce delays in care
  • Exams to be performed as determined through our established routine protocols, ensuring that exams ordered match the reason for exam and patient presentation, condition and history

Patient Care and Safety

  • Prepare patients for exams, ensuring their safety, comfort, and modesty at all times
  • Always check patient identifiers to validate correct patient name, DOB, MRN, correct exam and laterality ordered, every time
  • Monitor each patient’s condition during exams, taking appropriate action when assistance is needed
  • Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures and use the AIDET communication framework

Administrative

  • Document exams properly in Radiology Information System and PACS to ensure all details and required information are included
  • Maintain professionalism with in‑person interactions and also conduct proper phone etiquette with all staff, co‑workers, visitors and patients
  • Maintain licensure, certifications, CEUs and annual mandatory compliances
Job Requirements
  • Current or the ability to obtain one of the following licensure/certifications prior to start date:
    • Both the Massachusetts Radiologic Technologist License and ARRT Certification and Registration
    • Temporary Massachusetts Rad Tech License (must pass the national ARRT registry exam within one year and then apply for and receive permanent Massachusetts licensure within the one year)
  • Current BLS/CPR Certification, or the ability to obtain one prior to start date
  • Completion of two years post‑high school training in an approved school of radiologic technology
  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of diagnostic radiology practices and the operation of radiologic equipment
Preferred Qualifications and Role Expectations
  • One year of Radiologic Technology work experience in a hospital preferred
  • Maintain all Continuing Education Units
  • Excellent communication skills and initiative

The Diagnostic Radiology department at BMC is a full‑service, academic medical imaging department for both adult and pediatric patients. We perform over 120,000 exams a year on inpatient, outpatient and trauma patients. By utilizing the most sophisticated X‑ray imaging technology, our team of state‑licensed and ARRT‑certified and registered technologists ensures we deliver on our mission of delivering exceptional and equitable care to all.

Compensation Range

$29.95–$39.52. This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. Our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, and licensure/certifications directly related to position requirements.
