Job summary

Leidos seeks a Radar Optimization Engineer to support the BNATCS program’s RS R Radar Office, performing radar configuration, testing and calibration across busy airports. You will optimize radar performance, analyze data, document results, and coordinate with FAA personnel and vendors to resolve system issues.

Travel up to 75% is expected, with strict adherence to safety and FAA guidelines. A strong background in radar systems, RF, and field troubleshooting is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of relevant experience, or equivalent
• Degree or certification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Technology, Military Radar Systems, or related field
• Experience with radar system development, testing, calibration, or optimization
• Completion of formal radar training at the FAA Academy or equivalent
• Prior radar certification authority at airports or operational radar facilities
• Hands-on field experience with radar systems in NAS or comparable environments
• Knowledge of RF propagation, microwave transceivers, antenna alignment
• Experience with Ethernet, serial, CAN, fiber, and network protocols
• Proficiency with spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, radar diagnostic software
• Ability to perform radar testing, calibration, and optimization
• Understanding of mechanical tilt/azimuth alignment and environmental considerations
• Ability to configure radar tracking parameters and integration middleware
• Root-cause analysis for RF interference and data-packet loss
• Analyze radar performance data and document results
• FAA risk-management understanding
• Ability to work independently and in a small team
• Commitment to high-quality radar maintenance and safety
• Professional representation of Leidos to FAA
• Knowledge of FAA technical and radar-system requirements
• Ability to obtain FAA Public Trust clearance

Responsibilities

• Represent the PO at RSR sites and execute to a multi-site schedule
• Serve as SME to program office’s project, optimization, and engineering leads
• Support integration, configuration, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and optimization of radar systems
• Configure radar tracking parameters, target-classification software, and network interfaces
• Perform advanced field troubleshooting to isolate RF interference and hardware faults
• Support antenna alignment, tilt and azimuth verification, and environmental considerations
• Use spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, power meters, and radar software to tune system gain and detect thresholds
• Evaluate interfaces (Ethernet, CAN, fiber, power distribution) and grounding
• Analyze radar performance data and implement corrective adjustments
• Document test results, configurations, deficiencies, and final optimization settings
• Coordinate with FAA personnel, engineers, vendors and stakeholders
• Ensure field activities comply with FAA requirements and safety procedures
