Job summary

Hoosier Racing Tire in Plymouth, IN seeks a Compound Engineer Intern to support the Compound Engineering Department in developing and evaluating racing rubber compounds. The role includes hands-on training across processing, testing and tire manufacturing.

As you progress, you will design and lead a project related to compound performance, analyze laboratory data, and report findings by email. You will also attend races to observe real-world compound behavior.

Qualifications

• Enrollment as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student for Fall 2027.
• Majoring in Chemical Engineering, Rubber Engineering/Technology, or related technical field.
• GPA 3.0+ (transcripts required).
• Must be able to commute to Plymouth, IN.
• Housing is not provided for this opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Perform assigned projects.
• Study elastomer technology, rubber ingredients, and mixing/testing equipment.
• Learn how ingredients affect properties by conducting lab experiments and analyzing data.
• Attend races and tire tests to observe compound performance.
• Lead your own project on compound performance or curing thermodynamics.
• Provide regular project updates via written reports.
