Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation is seeking an R&D Technician II – Melting to support melting operations in our research and development programs. You will operate lab-scale VIM, VAR, and ESR furnaces, handling heat prep, melting, casting, and heat treating while maintaining safety and accuracy.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with 1+ years of related experience; machinist or melting experience is a plus, along with basic computer and measurement skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One or more years of related experience.
  • Technical / mechanical experience is desired.
  • Machinist or melting experience is a plus.
  • Tow motor experience is desired, but training will be provided.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and ability to follow instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Support role for melting operations in R&D.
  • Operate and assist operation of lab-scale VIM, VAR, and ESR furnaces.
  • Processing - heat preparation, melting, casting, heat treating, cutting operations, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Prepare experimental heats, rebuild furnaces, melt, and cast heats.
  • Operate band saws in R&D High Bay.
  • Provide back-up for other R&D positions as needed.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team.
