Job summary

Carpenter Technology Corporation is seeking an R&D Technician II – Melting in Reading, PA to support melting operations in our R&D lab. You will operate lab-scale VIM, VAR, and ESR furnaces and handle heat preparation, melting, casting, and heat treating tasks.

The role requires at least a high school diploma and 1+ year of related experience, with machinist or melting experience as a plus. Strong safety and communication skills are essential, and you may work alone or in a team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One or more years of related experience.
  • Technical / mechanical experience is desired.
  • Machinist or melting experience is a plus.
  • Experience operating a tow motor is desired, but training will be provided.
  • Working knowledge of scientific principles, standards, methods and practices.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE R&D TECHNICIAN II – MELTING
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Previous experience operating a tow motor is desired, but will train.
  • Working knowledge of scientific principles, standards, methods and practices.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical/laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to develop the basic skills needed to set up and operate various pieces of equipment on fairly routine jobs.
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to work in a production oriented environment.

  • Ability to lift to 40 lbs. occasionally throughout shift.
  • Computer skills required. (Microsoft Outlook, Word etc.).
  • Employee expected to navigate mainframe and LIMS system.
  • Ability to perform basic calculations necessary for the job.
  • Attention to detail, ability to follow instructions (written and verbal), and focus on safety are required.
