Job summary

ATI Specialty Materials invites applicants for the Summer 2027 Research and Development Intern role in Materials Science/Data Science. The 10-week program targets rising juniors, seniors, or master's candidates in materials science, mechanical engineering, or data science.

The intern will gain hands-on experience in R&D projects, including microstructural studies and heat treatment of nickel- and titanium-based alloys.

Qualifications

Materials Science & Engineering program enrolled or degree in progress.
Familiarity with Python, R, or MATLAB for modeling or data analysis (Data Science).
Metallurgical testing methods, forging/heat treat fundamentals (R&D).
Tools such as Excel, JMP, Minitab, ImageJ, or CAD/FEA software.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Interest in process-structure-property relationships or intelligent manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Conduct microstructural characterization of novel titanium alloys.
Support heat treatment studies of nickel and titanium alloys.
Participate in hot working trials, including forging and rolling of nickel and titanium alloys.
Support R&D activities involving nickel-base superalloy and titanium alloy systems.
Apply materials science concepts to hands-on R&D projects and materials processing activities.
