  • Analyze titanium hot working processes and correlate changes with microstructural effects.
  • Perform process audits across Monroe's Press, Radial Forge, and Conditioning areas.
  • Analyze process data to identify reduction schedules linked to forging forces.
  • Support process optimization and manufacturing improvements across nickel, titanium, and specialty steel alloy groups.
  • Prepare and present project findings and recommendations to peers and leadership.

Program Duration: 10 Weeks | Summer 2027

Target Students: Rising Sophomores, Juniors & Seniors - Materials Science & Engineering

Turn Metallurgy Into Manufacturing Impact - Intern in Process Metallurgy at ATI

At ATI, we engineer specialty materials that power the next generation of aircraft, spacecraft, surgical implants, and energy systems. As a Process Metallurgist Intern, you'll gain hands‑on experience applying fundamental metallurgy to real‑world manufacturing processes. You'll work alongside experienced metallurgists and operations teams to analyze process data, evaluate microstructural changes, identify improvement opportunities, and support process optimization across Monroe's Press, Radial Forge, and Conditioning operations.

What You'll Work On

Depending on your project assignment, you may:

  • Analyze titanium hot working processes by correlating changes such as reduced furnace soak times and modified reduction schedules with microstructural changes and their impact on product testing and RFT.
  • Perform process audits of standardized tasks within the Monroe Press, Radial Forge, and Conditioning areas to evaluate operator execution, process compliance, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Analyze Radial Forge output and process data to identify reduction schedules associated with excessive forging forces.
  • Apply metallurgical knowledge and data analysis to support process optimization and manufacturing improvements across nickel, titanium, and specialty steel alloy groups.
  • Prepare and present project findings and recommendations to peers and leadership.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in:
    • Materials Science & Engineering
    • Metallurgical Engineering
    • Related Materials or Metallurgy discipline
  • Completion of at least sophomore year of study required; rising juniors and seniors preferred.
  • Understanding of basic metallurgy and materials science principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Interest in manufacturing, metalworking, and process improvement.
  • Ability to analyze statistical/process data and identify trends.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a manufacturing
