Job summary

IonQ, Inc. is seeking a Microarchitecture (uArch) Researcher to lead efforts in designing fault-tolerant ion trap processors and large-scale chip architectures.

You will translate quantum error correction into physical layouts and build simulation tools to evaluate performance under realistic noise. You will work across trap designers, AMO physicists, and QEC researchers, sharing results through papers and technical writing while contributing to a cross-functional team advancing IonQ's quantum

Qualifications

• Four years of research experience in quantum computing or chip architecture.
• Degree in quantum computing, physics, engineering, chemistry or related field.
• Strong expertise in AMO theory, QEC theory, QCVV theory or classical VLSI theory and applying it to quantum hardware architecture.
• Experience with quantum simulation techniques and software tools.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the physical implementation and layout of fault-tolerant architectures in ion trap processors.
• Develop and tailor simulation tools to analyze logical performance under realistic physical noise.
• Collaborate with trap designers, AMO physicists, QEC researchers and other researchers; publish results.
• Advance research papers and other technical writings.
