Job Description

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for monitoring, verifying, and documenting food safety, quality, and regulatory processes in a meat processing facility. This role ensures that all products and materials meet regulatory, customer, and company standards by conducting routine inspections and audits throughout the production process and any special products as needed. The QA Technician will support the company policies, procedures, and projects by exercising attention to detail and multitasking abilities.

Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Perform pre-operational inspections to verify equipment cleanliness and sanitation.
  2. Conduct visual inspections and monitoring tests such as microbiological and allergen testing swabs.
  3. Conduct routine quality and food safety checks on raw materials, in-process materials, and finished goods, including temperature checks, fat and moisture analysis, metal detection checks, weight checks, and label verification.
  4. Monitor USDA critical control points (CCPs), sanitation procedures, allergen controls, and related documentation.
  5. Collect product samples for microbiological, chemical, and physical analysis by outside labs.
  6. Document test results, deviations, and corrective actions in accordance with company, HACCP, and USDA regulations.
  7. Assist in investigating and resolving issues of non-conformance and customer complaints.
  8. Calibrate and maintain QA testing equipment and monitoring tools.
  9. Ensure compliance with GMP, SSOP, and SOP standards.
  10. Participate in audits and support plant readiness for USDA and third-party inspections.
  11. Report food safety and quality issues immediately to QA leadership.
Qualifications and Skills
  1. High school diploma or GED required; Associate of Science degree or higher preferred.
  2. 1–2 years of experience in quality assurance and/or food safety, preferably in meat or food manufacturing.
  3. Knowledge of USDA regulations, HACCP, and food safety practices.
  4. Understanding of microbiology and food science.
  5. Problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  6. Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  7. Effective communication skills in English; bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
  8. Attention to detail and ability to work in cold, wet, fast-paced environments.
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QA documentation systems, utilizing tablets and/or paper documentation.
Physical Requirements
  1. Ability to stand for 8–10 hours.
  2. Lift up to 50 lbs and work in temperatures of 32–45°F.
  3. Frequent walking, bending, squatting, and reaching.
