Description

Job Title: Quality Assurance Technician

Department: Operations

Reports to: Plant Manager OR QA Manager/Supervisor with dotted line to Director of Quality

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Travel: Limited, as needed to other sites

Job Summary

The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for training Inspector/Packers, verifying tool calibration, auditing the production line, coaching Inspector/Packers, notifying production supervisors of quality problems, assisting with problem resolution, controlling quarantine sorting and re-inspections, conducting special inspections, and collaborating with the Quality Manager/Supervisor to resolve quality issues. The incumbent should be a self-starter, manage time effectively, work independently, and adhere to Altor’s safety and conduct standards.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

The following list represents typical duties, which may vary by facility:

  • Designated trainer for Inspector/Packers, including following an approved training program and testing for safety and inspection duties. Conduct or assist with Inspector/Packer Quality Refresher Training.
  • Perform line audits, including documented QA inspections, reviewing inspector quality checks, evaluating scrapped products, and coaching employees on quality standards.
  • Verify all scales in production areas daily.
  • Collaborate with Production Supervisors to evaluate and resolve quality issues.
  • Manage production hold and quarantine activities, document and control sorting processes.
  • Work closely with the Quality Manager/Supervisor and Shift Supervisor on quarantine and sorting operations, and promptly report unresolved issues and quarantined products.
  • Conduct and document warehouse or dock audits as needed.
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained across all inspection activities.
  • Partner with production teams to identify and resolve quality problems.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and test results.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a quality control role.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience with quality control tools and techniques, such as statistical process control and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of standards like ISO 9001.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime and flexible hours as needed.

Physical Demands

Must frequently lift up to 30 pounds, stand, walk on concrete, and handle products. Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, twisting, and moving materials are required. Use of PPE is mandatory.
