Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Performance Engineer II to oversee day-to-day operations on active solar projects, focusing on performance monitoring, data analytics, and reporting.

Role can be remote or hybrid with in-office presence in San Diego, CA or Bend, OR; location discussed during interview. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, lead engineers, and support optimization across utility-scale PV and storage projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, science, or a related technical discipline.
• 4+ Years’ experience in PV Performance Engineering, Capacity Testing (ASTM E2848 & IEC standards) and PV data analytics.
• Experience in modeling using software like PVSyst, PlantPredict, SAM.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Office tools.
• Experience with programming languages like Python, VBA, MATLAB, Java, and others preferred.
• Ability to travel up to 20% of time.
• Broad understanding of the Renewable Energy industry with emphasis on Service and Construction preferred.
• Foster a spirit of collaboration between teams.
• Experience working for a diverse multi-disciplined company.
• Strong communication skills to clearly articulate vision into an executable plan and clearly communicate details and thoughts to internal/external clients.
• Effective problem-solving ability and strong analytical skills. Ability to identify underlying or hidden problems; looks beyond the obvious to the essence of issues and / or tasks.

Responsibilities

• Safety is the most important function and all personnel follow safe practices.
• Collaborate with internal teams to collect data, complete reports, and deliverables.
• On-board active projects into SOLV Energy’s internal Performance Team platforms.
• Track issues with the fleet and share findings to optimize performance.
• Troubleshoot performance data and correlate with workorder data for reporting.
• Lead Performance Engineers and Analysts in day-to-day coordination of operations.
• Maintain understanding of site design, equipment, and current issues.
• Analyze energy losses and performance impacts from outages or underperformance.
• Update reports for clients including Commissioning Plans, Test Reports, and Vitals.
• Support field work prioritization based on criticality and failures.
• Identify operational issues and coordinate with vendors and technicians.
• Support data analytics and software tool development.
• Review reports to identify performance issues and improvements.
• Lead plant performance optimization initiatives and client collaboration.
• Monitor contractual guarantees and conduct risk reviews.
• Maintain documents and procedures for reference and training.
• Foster ongoing relationships with Performance Engineers and clients.
• Participate in project reviews and ad-hoc client requests.
• Review turnover documentation for root causes of failures.
• Run PV system energy models using PVsyst or similar tools.
• Verify drawings and system layout details.
• Create and improve troubleshooting/reporting templates.
• Execute tasks within the Performance Engineering Workflow.
