Job summary

New River Community College seeks a Purchasing and Inventory Specialist to support departments in procuring goods and services while ensuring cost-effectiveness and contract compliance.

You will manage supplier relationships, maintain asset records, and oversee annual physical inventories, with training on eVA and procurement cards provided. This is a full-time position located in Pulaski, VA, offering collaboration within the college’s procurement team.

Qualifications

  • Experience in purchasing, supply chain management or related field.

  • Accuracy in data entry and maintenance of records.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, procurement and inventory management software.

  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support employees in procuring goods and services for departments, prioritizing cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure negotiation for and compliance with college-wide contracts.
  • Maintain partnerships with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and high-quality products.
  • Oversee inventory levels and restock the college supply room as necessary to prevent shortages or surpluses.
  • Maintain accurate records of all assets owned by the college, including their location, condition and value.
  • Conduct an annual physical inventory to rectify any discrepancies.
  • Provide training to employees on eVA and procurement card procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Description

New River Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under a state-wide system of 23 community colleges. The college is located on a one-hundred plus acre site at the intersection of U.S. Routes 11 and 100 in Dublin, Virginia with an instructional site in Christiansburg. The campus provides modern, well-equipped facilities for the career technical education programs as well as for the college transfer programs. Approximately 4,000 students comprise the student body.

Duties

Special Assignments
