Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited program.
• Massachusetts Respiratory Care Licensure.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Pulmonary Disease Educator Certification or ability to obtain within six months.
• Three years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients admitted with COPD, COPD exacerbation, respiratory failure, asthma-related conditions to determine education and follow-up needs.
• Assist Continuity of Care with respiratory orders for discharge.
• Collaborate with care team to create a COPD action plan including smoking cessation, medications, oxygen therapy, delivery device training, and pulmonary rehabilitation.
• Provide patient education materials tailored to literacy level, including disease overview, triggers, medication schedules, inhaler technique, and self-management plans.
• Perform patient follow-up calls and track COPD/ Asthma-related metrics for readmissions and outcomes.
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement processes and care coordination across the team.
• Maintain equipment and ensure safe operation under supervision as needed.
