The City of Grand Rapids is seeking a Public Services Specialist to lead crews in solid waste operations, including recycling, refuse, and yard waste. You will plan and assign tasks to Refuse Collection Operators and Public Services Aides, and assist in training new staff.
You will coordinate ordinance enforcement, corridor cleaning, and build strong relationships with police and support organizations, while troubleshooting operations and recommending improvements.
This is semi-skilled work within the solid waste operations and includes leadership responsibilities over employees engaged in the collection of recycling, refuse, and yard waste. Work is performed under the general supervision of a supervisor or manager. The work includes planning, organizing, coordinating and assigning tasks to Refuse Collection Operators and Public Services Aides. The Public Services Specialist will assist in or coordinate the training of new employees. Another primary duty of this position is the coordination and enforcement of recycling, refuse and yard waste ordinance violations, as well as oversee corridor cleaning operations. The specialist will build and maintain relationships with Police, H.O.T. team and other assistance organizations in the coordination of the corridor cleaning activities. This position will also troubleshoot problem areas and make recommendations regarding process and operational improvements to management. This position will, on occasion, fill-in on acting assignment, in the supervisor role.
