Job summary

The City of Grand Rapids is seeking a Public Services Specialist to lead crews in solid waste operations, including recycling, refuse, and yard waste. You will plan and assign tasks to Refuse Collection Operators and Public Services Aides, and assist in training new staff.

You will coordinate ordinance enforcement, corridor cleaning, and build strong relationships with police and support organizations, while troubleshooting operations and recommending improvements.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in solid waste operations, including lead worker experience.
• Possession of a valid Michigan CDL A license.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and lead Refuse Collection Operators and Public Services Aides; assign tasks and oversee daily operations.
• Plan, organize, coordinate, and adjust routes and tasks to ensure efficient waste collection and recycling.
• Assist in training of new employees and coordinate safety and compliance with DOT requirements.
• Coordinate enforcement of recycling, refuse and yard waste ordinances and supervise corridor cleaning activities; build community relationships with Police and other agencies.
