Job summary

State of Maine is hiring a Driver License Examiner in Lewiston to administer road skills, written and vision tests for Class A, B, C, motorcycle, and school bus licenses. You will evaluate driving skills, explain test results, and ensure compliance with statutes.

The role requires excellent customer service, teamwork, and the ability to work in varying weather. A valid state driver’s license and a clean background are essential.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of work experience affording public contact and knowledge of Maine motor vehicle laws
• High school diploma or equivalent required; authorized to work in the United States
• Not eligible for visa sponsorship; must pass National Criminal Background check/fingerprint as required

Responsibilities

• Conducts pre-trip vehicle evaluations and administers driving skills tests.
• Administers road skills tests for Class A, B, C vehicles, motorcycles, and school buses; includes special examinations for physically challenged applicants.
• Administers and scores written and oral examinations on traffic laws and explains results to determine knowledge of rules.
• Performs vision screening to determine visual acuity for license issuance.
• Operates licensing equipment and manages testing materials and records; explains laws and procedures to applicants.
