State of Maine—Department of the Secretary of State is hiring a Driver License Examiner in Lewiston, ME. The role administers road skills, written/oral tests, and vision screening for various driver licenses under supervision.

Work occurs outdoors in all weather with regular scheduling Monday through Friday. Bonus focus areas include digital fluency, process improvement, and compliance with Maine motor vehicle regulations.

Qualifications

• Two years of work experience with public contact and knowledge of Maine motor vehicle laws.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip vehicle evaluations and administer driving skills tests.
• Administer and score road skills tests for Class A, B, C, motorcycles, and school buses.
• Administer and score written and oral examinations on traffic laws.
• Administer vision screening to determine visual acuity for licensure.
• Operate digital photo licensing equipment to issue licenses and IDs.
• Explain applicable laws and procedures to applicants; maintain testing equipment.
