Job summary

State of Maine in Lewiston is seeking a Driver License Examiner to administer road skills, written and oral tests, and vision screenings for Class A–C licenses and school buses. Work may be outdoors in all weather under limited supervision.

You will operate licensing equipment, explain laws and procedures, and ensure accurate scoring of examinations while supporting a customer-focused public service mission.

Qualifications

• Two years of work experience with public contact and knowledge of Maine motor vehicle laws.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Conducts pre-trip vehicle evaluations and administers driving skills tests.
• Administers and scores road skills tests for Class A, B, and C vehicles, motorcycles, and school buses.
• Administers and scores written and oral examinations on traffic laws and explains results to determine applicant knowledge.
• Administers vision screening examinations to determine visual acuity for license issuance.
• Operates digital photo licensing equipment to issue licenses and state IDs.
• Applies and explains applicable laws, rules, policies, and procedures to licensure applicants.
• Operates electronic tablets and desktop software used to administer, score, and record examination results.
• Answers inquiries from the public and provides accurate information regarding driver licensing requirements.
