Job summary

Department of the Secretary of State in Portland, Maine seeks a Driver License Examiner to administer road skills tests and written/oral exams for Class A, B, C, motorcycle, and school bus licenses.

The role requires vision screening, use of digital photo equipment, and adherence to laws, rules, and procedures for licensure. Travel statewide may be required and the position offers standard public-service benefits.

Qualifications

• Two years of public contact work experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Maine motor vehicle laws and regulations is desirable.
• Ability to pass a National Criminal Background check and I-9 form upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Administers road skills tests for Class A, B, C licenses, motorcycles and school buses.
• Administers and scores written and oral exams on traffic laws and test results.
• Performs vision screening to determine acuity for licensure.
• Operates digital photo licensing equipment for licenses and IDs.
• Maintains testing equipment, forms, and supplies in good condition.
