Job summary

OpenAI Government is seeking an AI Architect to serve as the senior technical owner for a named portfolio of public sector customers, shaping each customer's AI strategy and guiding their journey from pre-sales discovery through deployment and measurable mission impact. You will own the technical account plan across ChatGPT Enterprise, the OpenAI API, Codex, and other agentic AI solutions.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in customer-facing technical roles such as solutions architecture, solutions engineering, technical account leadership, AI deployment, or technical customer success.
• Guided complex organizations from technical evaluation through production adoption and measurable impact.
• Experience with government agencies, public institutions, or government contractors and understanding procurement, security, governance.
• Ability to build credibility with senior technical and government leaders while communicating with hands-on engineers and program teams.
• Strong software and cloud architecture foundations, including APIs, distributed systems, data integration, identity, security, and privacy.
• Understanding of modern AI systems, frontier models, agentic applications, model evaluation, retrieval, and enterprise AI workflows.
• Ability to prototype, explain tradeoffs, and work with APIs, SDKs, and languages such as Python or JavaScript.
• Sound judgment on when to go deep or hand off to specialists and establish clear ownership.
• Experience developing technical account plans, prioritizing portfolios, and linking adoption to outcomes.
• Meaningful expertise in a relevant public sector mission or customer segment.
• Clear communication turning ambiguity into actionable plans.
• Collaborate across disciplines to help public sector deploy AI safely and responsibly.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical advisor and long-term technical relationship owner for a named portfolio of public sector customers and pre‑sales prospects.
• Own the technical account plan, milestones, adoption priorities, and expansion opportunities in partnership with the Account Director.
• Lead discovery with agency leaders and technical teams to identify and prioritize use cases tied to mission outcomes.
• Develop Applied AI Architectures spanning models, data, integration, security, governance, and deployment.
• Guide customers through evaluations, workshops, prototypes, and proofs of value toward production.
• Navigate security, compliance, governance, and deployment requirements for public sector AI adoption.
• Maintain a focused use‑case portfolio with clear ownership, blockers, and adoption plans.
• Build trusted relationships with CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, and other stakeholders.
• Coordinate support from Deployment Engineering, security, product, and partners; ensure delivery teams own implementation.
• Track adoption, account health, production readiness, and measurable mission impact; intervene when needed.
• Apply public sector expertise to identify patterns and expansion opportunities.
• Share customer insights with Product, Engineering, and Research to improve products and practices.
