Job summary

Orange County Government seeks a Dispatcher Trainee to participate in Florida PST training and related emergency-calling coursework within the OCFRD Communications department. Trainees will complete required state certifications and assessments while advancing through the program.

Upon successful completion, trainees may transition to Dispatcher roles, with progression to higher rates according to county policy.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or equivalent with one year experience in computers, customer service, or data entry or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Successful completion of dispatcher assessment, including data entry, spelling, and decision-making.
• Must have a clear and easily understood voice.
• Trainee must obtain Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator (PST) certification within one year of employment and maintain certification while employed; PST refresher every two years.
• Trainees must obtain Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) and Emergency Fire Dispatcher (EFD) certifications within one year and maintain certifications; refresher every two years.

Responsibilities

• Receives 232 state-mandated training hours for PST.
• Attends and participates in the Emergency Telecommunicator Course (ETC) classes.
• Attends and participates in the Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) classes.
• Attends and participates in the Emergency Fire Dispatch (EFD) classes.
• Attends CPR training.
• Training on the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
• Training on the 911-phone system.
• Training on the 800 MHz radio system.
• Trainees must complete the emergency call taking assessment within one year of employment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
