Public Safety Dispatcher

We are seeking compassionate, dedicated, and responsible individuals to work in our combined police, fire, and EMS emergency communications center. This is an exciting opportunity to play a critical role in Concord’s public safety operations.
Ideal candidates will have prior experience in emergency communications, strong problem-solving capabilities, and a commitment to serving others. Additionally, we seek candidates who desire to learn and grow and are passionate about serving others. Candidates without any emergency communications experience are also encouraged to apply.

The most highly qualified candidates will be invited to interview and complete any required assessments. All applicants will be notified of their standing in the process as soon as a decision has been made regarding their individual application.
The current salary range is $26.38 – $33.37/hour. Shift differential is paid for evening and overnight shifts. Additional stipends and special assignment pay are available. Starting pay is dependent upon experience and qualifications. Compensation package includes pension benefit, health insurance options, dental/vision, education reimbursements, wellness reimbursements, among other benefits.
Appointment of the final candidate will be contingent upon the results of pre-placement conditions including criminal and credit record checks, a physical exam, a drug screening, and a thorough background investigation. Costs for these pre-placement requirements will be borne by the Town.

General Summary:
Dispatchers perform emergency telecommunications and dispatch work in the Town’s Public Safety Communications Center. The work involves receiving and processing police, fire and EMS emergency and non-emergency calls and dispatching public safety and municipal resources in compliance with national, state, and local standards, protocols, policies, and procedures. Many situations are high-stress and urgent in nature, and the individual must be able to remain calm and resilient in the accomplishment of their duties. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Emergency Communications Center Manager and/or their designee.

Work is primarily performed in an emergency dispatch center environment, where there is limited opportunity for physical movement, sometimes subject to extreme emotions, stressful circumstances, and occasional loud noises, with constant interruptions. Not subject to extreme variations of temperature, odors, etc. Frequently subjected to the demands of other individuals and the volume and /or rapidity with which tasks must be accomplished.
Operates a variety of equipment, including telephones, radios, audio/visual devices, computer keyboards. Close eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity and may also need to be able to move rapidly from a sedentary to active condition.
