The University of North Carolina is seeking a Public Safety Telecommunicator to perform technical communications work in support of public safety operations. The role handles emergent and non-emergent calls, monitors alarms, coordinates response procedures, dispatches personnel, and maintains logs and databases.

Positions are full-time with a standard Monday–Friday schedule, though individual schedules vary.

Qualifikationen

• High School diploma and sufficient experience to demonstrate ability to work under pressure.
• Journey level requires an additional one year of experience.
• Advanced level requires an additional two years of experience.

Aufgaben

• Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance and information.
• Provides dispatch and communication support services for police (including rangers), fire, emergency, and related services.
• Operates a multi-line telephone console system, an alerting system, and LiveSafe.
• Alerting system translates information into the appropriate codes.
• Determines and assigns the level of priority of the call, and enters the data into a computer-aided dispatch system for radio dispatch purposes.
• Performs crisis intervention services, asks vital questions to ensure the caller is understood.
• Transfers Fire and Medical needs to the appropriate dispatch centers.
• Monitors and operates a radio console and computer equipment.
• Receives and responds to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints.
• Asks questions to interpret, analyze and anticipate the caller’s situation as to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch emergency services, or refer callers to other agencies.
• Dispatches and coordinates the responses of public safety agencies.
• Identify the appropriate number and type of equipment or apparatus to dispatch.
• Enters and modifies information into local, state, and national computer databases.
• Monitors and responds to a variety of technical systems and alarms.
