Job summary

The Georgia Department of Public Health (GA) is seeking a dedicated registered nurse to assess health care needs, administer nursing care, vaccines, and education to clients. You will work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver essential public health services and school-related care across the Coastal Health District.

The role requires an associate degree in nursing, an active Georgia RN license and CPR, with PHN coursework completed within one year of hire.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Current Georgia RN license and CPR certification.
  • Completion of PHN course within one year of hire; or PH Registered Nurse 1 or equivalent.
  • BSN degree preferred; ASN accepted with required coursework.

Responsibilities

  • Assess clients' health care needs and health problems.
  • Provide nursing care and administer treatments and vaccines.
  • Coordinate with health care team to plan and evaluate care.
  • Maintain accurate client records and reports.
  • Modify treatment plans based on patient response.
  • Monitor diet, activity, and overall client care.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
  • Prepare rooms, instruments, and supplies; manage stock.
  • Educate clients, families, and community providers.
  • Deliver health care, first aid, and immunizations; provide school health care.
  • Work during disasters and emergencies per protocols.
  • Comply with all employment and safety guidelines.

Assess client health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to Health Department clients. May advise clients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case management. Nurse will provide Public Health services to clients on a daily basis. Cares for population with special needs during disasters/emergencies and biological and chemical protocols.

Responsibilities
  • 1. Provides comprehensive assessment of client's health care needs
  • 2. Provides treatments, administers medications/vaccines, and preventative/maintenance care to clients and families
  • 3. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care plans
  • 4. Maintains accurate, detailed reports and client records
  • 5. Modifies client treatment plans as indicated by clients responses and conditions
  • 6. Monitors all aspects of client care, including diet and physical activity
  • 7. Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in clients conditions
  • 8. Prepares clients for, and assists with, examinations and treatments
  • 9. Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment and supplies, and ensures that stock of supplies is maintained
  • 10. Provides education to clients, families, and community service providers
  • 11. Provides health care, first aid, and immunizations
  • 12. Provides school related health care services

Associate degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of nursing experience and completion of a PHN course within one year of hire and current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license and CPR certification; or one (1) year of experience at the lowerlevel PH Registered Nurse 1 (HCP190) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

BSN; Previous Public Health experience strongly preferred.

Applicants hired for the position with an ASN degree will be required to successfully complete an approved School of Nursing BSN Level Health Assessment Course if they have not previously done so.
