Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is hiring an Eligibility Worker (Public Benefits Specialist) in the Gresham area. This role supports Oregonians by determining program eligibility, delivering person-centered services, and coordinating with partners to provide benefits and information.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include one year of experience at Human Services Specialist 1 level or two years working with the public, interpreting and applying policies, rules, or guidelines; or an associate degree plus six months of such experience; or an equivalent combination.
• Essential attributes include experience in social/human services interviewing customers by phone or in person, applying complex rules and policies, teamwork, time management, attention to detail, and trauma-informed, culturally responsive service.

Responsibilities

• Conduct interviews to determine eligibility for ODHS programs and gather household details, income, resources, and other information.
• Review materials as needed to determine eligibility at intake, during renewals, and when recipients report changes.
• Explain applicant rights and responsibilities during initial applications and when benefits change.
• Process data to ensure timely delivery of benefits and services.
• Provide information and referrals, working with partners to deliver services and trauma-informed support.
