Job description

• Assist, monitor, and/or maintain patients' activities of daily living
• Orient patients and family/significant others to the unit and hospital
• Escort patients to tests, meals, activities, and other locations while supervising and managing behavior as required
• Perform patients' vital signs
• Receive direction from the RN and communicate significant or unusual patient behavior occurrences
• Document pertinent observations and occurrences in patients' medical records according to policy
• Defuse and report crisis situations, intervening when appropriate and using proper procedures
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by assisting with groups and setting limits on patients
• Follow established safety and risk management policies and procedures
• Perform patient rounding at designated intervals and document appropriately

Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices
• Successful completion of CPI's Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills within 90 days
• Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications
• Advanced training beyond High School including completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant
• No experience required
• Good verbal and written skills for safe and effective patient care
• Positive and effective interpersonal skills
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
• Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
• Ability to restrain and control patients who are outwardly psychotic or physically combative
• Functional use of senses for effective communication
• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
