Job summary

The candidate should have a Medical Assistant program completion or 3+ years of related clinic experience, CPR/BLS certification, strong typing skills, and solid clerical abilities to support scheduling and documentation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or 3+ years in medical office roles.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification within 14 days of hire.
  • Proficient typing and word processing; able to perform clinical competencies.
  • Must meet the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient flow of patients through the health care setting with culturally sensitive care and exceptional customer service
  • Prepare patients for visits and perform limited procedures
  • Accurately schedule tests, obtain films and reports, and prepare laboratory specimens according to policy
  • Assist physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on the competency checklist
  • Collaborate with the health care team to coordinate and implement patient-care plans
  • Record elements of patient history for clinical staff review
  • Electronically submit, call and/or fax prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies
  • Record completed-procedure data on appropriate forms and in medical records
  • Maintain medical records and required documentation; distribute reports and correspondence; file, photocopy and process chart-related forms
  • Maintain examination-room orderliness and cleanliness; stock supplies and maintain par levels
  • Complete required logs and equipment checks, including refrigerator, eyewash, emergency/crash cart and suction checks
  • Perform clerical duties including greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification, insurance forms, financial records, phone answering and charge entry
  • Perform simple procedures as directed by nurses or physicians and as defined on the competency checklist
  • Measure and document vital signs, height, weight and screening procedures
  • Perform other assigned duties

Requirements


  • High School Graduate or GED

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program OR at least 3 years of a combination of Medical Assistant, Health Care Associate or clinic office job-related experience

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 14 days of hire

  • Basic typing and word processing

  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and/or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department
