Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Behavioral Health Tech to provide a safe, caring environment for inpatients and support patients with behavioral health needs. You will help implement structured daily activities, de-escalate crises using CPI methods, and coordinate with staff to ensure patient safety and compliance with treatment plans.

Responsibilities include direct care, safety-focused interventions, documentation, and collaboration with the unit manager to maintain a therapeutic milieu.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social science or related field.
  • CPI training completed or within 3 months of hire.

Job description

  • Provide a safe, caring, nurturing, healing, and educative environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the behavioral health inpatient unit
  • Assist in providing care to individuals with behavioral, emotional, or mental health diagnoses
  • Ensure therapeutic activities, groups, and daily schedules are followed and implemented
  • Direct direct-care staff in interventions supporting individual and milieu safety
  • De-escalate patients using the CPI model and prevention strategies
  • Take immediate action and make decisions to ensure safety
  • Reduce or eliminate seclusion and restraints through verbal de-escalation and patient support
  • Participate in seclusion/restraint application, patient monitoring, documentation, and debriefing
  • Help patients develop coping skills and emotional-regulation strategies
  • Interface with behavioral health and security staff and request additional assistance when needed
  • Provide supportive care to patients and families
  • Monitor video/audio equipment and conduct patient-area rounds
  • Complete electronic event reports and document interventions
  • Obtain pertinent clinical data and ensure respectful, dignified treatment
  • Comply with legal admission and treatment requirements, including confidentiality, patients' rights, and releases of information
  • Incorporate trauma-informed care through therapeutic interactions, interventions, and de-escalation
  • Assess patients and suggest treatment goals for patients posing risks to themselves or others
  • Assist with performance-improvement activities, chart audits, data compilation, and root-cause analyses
  • Compile and help analyze intake, utilization, and patient-flow data
  • Collaborate with the unit manager, staff, and educator to maintain a supportive, structured, and safe environment
  • Assist with disposition planning, referrals, patient/family education, and barrier removal
  • Advocate for patients' ongoing treatment success and maintain relationships with community providers
  • Recognize and report abuse or neglect as required by law
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Science
  • Minimum of 1 year of Behavioral Health experience upon hire
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Training within 3 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Fluent English reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking
  • Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser
  • Multicultural sensitivity
  • Critical thinking skills using independent judgment
  • Advanced reading, writing, and oral skills
  • Ability to utilize a PC, Windows environment, keyboard, mouse, and basic computer tasks
  • Ability to tolerate stressful patient interactions and situations
