Job summary

Merakey is seeking a full-time Psychiatric Technician to join our Adult Behavioral Health program in York, PA. This role provides direct care to adults with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness in an Extended Acute Care setting and supports development of life skills and independent living.

Two 2nd shift options are available (4:00 PM–12:00 AM or 3:00 PM–11:00 PM). Pay starts at $17.17/hour with a high school diploma, up to $23.71–$24.71 with a bachelor’s degree and shift differentials; a

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 12 college hours in mental health or related field, or 6 months in mental health field.
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work or related field.
  • Ability to physically intervene in the provision of care is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years old and have an active driver’s license.
  • Experience with adults in residential/community settings is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely manage agitated consumers with de-escalation techniques.
  • Complete clear and accurate documentation.
  • Provide care that respects rights, safety and therapeutic environment.
  • Report crises to the Program Director/Supervisor immediately.
  • Support individuals with household activities and daily living tasks.
  • Promote activities of daily living and independence.
  • Assist in developing and implementing activities to build skills for community living.

We are hiring for multiple full‑time positions at one location. 2nd shift schedules available, all 40 hours per week.

Requirements
  • Psychiatric Technician I – High School Diploma/GED with completion of 12 semester hours of college coursework in a mental health or related field OR 6 months of work experience in mental health or a related field.
  • Psychiatric Technician II – Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work, human services, or related field.
  • Ability to physically intervene in the provision of care to individuals is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • An active and unrestricted driver’s license is required.
  • Experience with adults in residential and/or community settings is preferred.
Available Schedules
  • 2nd Shift: 4:00 PM–12:00 AM (Week 1: Sun, Tue–Fri; Week 2: Tue–Sat)
  • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM–11:00 (Week 1: Mon, Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat; Week 2: Sun, Mon, Wed, Thu, Fri)

Earn $19.71/hour with a Bachelor’s degree (up to $23.71–$24.71 with shift differentials) or $17.17/hour with a high school diploma/GED (up to $21.17–$22.17 with shift differentials). Plus Enhanced Pay eligibility.

Position Details

Our psychiatric technicians provide direct care to individuals with Serious and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) in an Extended Acute Care (EAC) facility. This role involves supporting consumers in developing life skills for greater independence, implementing individualized treatment plans, and actively participating in the treatment planning process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely and respectfully manage agitated consumers with appropriate use of de‑escalation techniques.
  • Complete clear and accurate documentation.
  • Provide care and treatment in a manner that considers the rights, safety, comfort and overall therapeutic environment for consumers.
  • Report all consumer crisis and or unusual incidents immediately to the Program Director/Supervisor.
  • Support individuals in the performance of household activities (cleaning, organizing, laundry, etc).
  • Teach and promote various activities of daily living (money management, hygiene, time management, keeping a schedule, social and leisure activities, etc).
  • Assist in developing and implementing activities to increase skills in independent and community living, socialization/leisure time and to build on strengths to promote positive growth for the consumer.
