Responsibilities

Located at the Lexington Detention Center in Lexington, KY.

The Psych Tech – Forensic Unit engages in responsibilities related to providing mental health care and support to individuals involved in the criminal justice system who require restoration of their competency to stand trial. The Psych Tech works closely with a multidisciplinary team to promote the well-being and recovery of patients on the unit. The Psych Tech assists with treatment planning and monitors client progress. They offer a wide range of individual and group activities, assisting in the structure and maintenance of a successful behavioral health unit.

Responsibilities include:

1. Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
2. Providing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed to manage challenging behaviors and ensure safety.
3. Assisting in delivering interventions such as individual contacts, psychoeducational programming, and group sessions tailored to patient needs.
4. Providing recreational activities to individual patients or groups.
5. Completing daily documentation of services provided and patient participation, adhering to legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
6. Monitoring patients during scheduled and free time activities to prevent out-of-control behavior.
7. Implementing skills workshops and psychoeducational activities in behavior management.
8. Interacting with patients in a socially appropriate manner and involving them in activities or games.
9. Documenting critical incidents and treatment progress in patient records.
10. Participating in team meetings, including morning reports and monthly staff meetings.
11. Following standard precautions and using personal protective equipment as required.
12. Maintaining professional standards, including personal appearance, harmonious working relationships, and timely communication of absences.
13. Performing other duties as assigned by management.
