Responsibilities of the Behavioral Health Technician include:
  • Providing one-on-one support to patients with behavioral health needs as required.
  • Monitoring patient safety, observing behaviors and conditions following established procedures.
  • Collaborating with Registered Nurses to conduct environmental checks and identify risks.
  • Implementing safety measures such as physical restraints, observation levels, and suicide watches when necessary.
  • Responding to and helping de-escalate acute behavioral episodes in a therapeutic manner, understanding the source of distress.
  • Preventing patient elopement under the guidance of medical staff and calling for support when needed.
  • Recognizing behaviors that may escalate and applying non-verbal and verbal de-escalation techniques.
  • Monitoring patients and their environment with a focus on safety.
  • Assisting with vital signs and Activities of Daily Living as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Completing patient care documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Supporting medical procedures under the supervision of Registered Nurses.
  • Working 32 hours with day/evening rotations, occasional nights, every other weekend, and rotating holidays on 8-hour shifts.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED; Associate's Degree preferred.
  • BLS certification within three months of hire.
  • Welle De-escalation training within six months of hire.
  • Six months of experience in behavioral health or educational settings preferred.
