Job summary

ABB Inc. is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to lead engineering activities for substation protection and control/automation systems across utility, industrial, and commercial projects.

This full-remote role prefers candidates in Northern California. You will develop documentation, perform analyses, manage design packages, and coordinate with project teams while ensuring safety and standards compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's Degree preferred.
• 5+ years of protection & control project experience for utility customers.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical one-lines, schematics, and manuals.
• PE License in California required.
• Candidates must have US work authorization.

Responsibilities

• Lead and act as technical lead for engineering activities in substation protection & control/automation systems.
• Develop engineering documentation and analyses (schematics, layouts, BOMs, reports, calculations) for compliant designs.
• Manage project materials, design packages, and issue resolution with project teams and customers.
• Ensure adherence to safety practices and industry standards while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
