Job summary

ABB is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to serve as the technical lead for engineering activities on utility projects, including substation protection/controls and automation systems. This full-remote role prefers candidates in the Northern California area, with responsibilities spanning design, documentation, and technical support to project teams.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's Degree preferred.
5+ years of experience in protection & control projects for utility customers.
Ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical one-lines, schematics, and instruction manuals.
PE License in California required.
Candidates must already have work authorization to work for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

Lead and support engineering design activities for substation protection & control/automation systems, including planning, coordination, and execution of new and retrofit designs.
Develop engineering documentation and analyses—schematics, logic diagrams, layouts, BOMs, reports, and calculations.
Manage project materials, construction design packages, and issue resolution with ongoing communication to project teams and customers.
Ensure safety, standards compliance, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams; participate in training to maintain proficiency.
