Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat invites qualified students to join the Engineering, Propulsion Plant and Ship Systems team for Summer Intern/Co-op 2027. The program focuses on propulsion fluid systems, ship systems integration, and waterfront support during Columbia-class submarine construction.

Interns will perform engineering calculations, verify design requirements, and collaborate with Navy stakeholders to resolve issues across design, testing, and construction stages.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled full-time at a college or university.
• Available to work 40 hours per week for eight consecutive weeks May 2027–Sept 2027.
• US citizenship and ability to obtain security clearance required.
• Pursuing a Mechanical, Aerospace, Ocean, Chemical, Structural/Civil, Nuclear, Acoustic, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering degree.

Responsibilities

• Perform calculations on fluid systems, structures, shielding and other components.
• Ensure system requirements are met by engineering designs.
• Engage with Design, Construction Trades and Navy to implement designs.
• Work in multidisciplinary teams to solve propulsion or ship system issues.
• Provide troubleshooting support on the deckplate and in a waterfront setting.
• Document responses to nonconformances and design changes.
• Communicate with Navy customers via technical submittals.
