Job summary

Essex Property Trust is seeking a Community Manager for one of our on-site properties in California. The role leads an on-site team, manages the property budget, and ensures a high-quality living environment for residents.

The position oversees daily operations across finance, maintenance, sales, and administration, while ensuring compliance with Fair Housing, Landlord-Tenant regulations, and OSHA standards. A college degree is preferred and salary starts in line with California market rates.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
• 3+ years of property management experience or related management experience.
• Proven ability to supervise staff of two or more associates.
• Prior sales, marketing and customer service experience.
• Knowledge of budgets and financial statements and ability to work within budgeted guidelines.
• Proficient understanding of English reading/writing and communication.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; property management software preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day financial, sales, marketing, maintenance, and administrative operations of a standalone community.
• Manage personnel through the employment lifecycle including recruitment, development, performance coaching and recognition.
• Manage expenses closely and within budget; communicate overages in advance and pursue expense savings.
• Maintain the highest level of customer service for prospects, residents, vendors, and internal departments.
• Manage financial performance and stay current on market conditions; pursue new revenue opportunities.
• Oversee and support the collection process; ensure delinquency targets are met.
• Lead by example, monitor staff tasks, delegate work, and provide performance coaching.
• Ensure compliance with Essex policies, Fair Housing laws, Landlord-Tenant regulations, and OSHA standards.
