Job description

Join to apply for the Project Surveyor role at HWC Engineering.

Our team is looking for a qualified, ambitious, and detail-oriented Project Surveyor to support our Survey team. The ideal candidate will be involved with municipal public works and civil/site construction projects. This role involves managing survey projects, preparing proposals, and supervising survey staff.

The position reports to our Indianapolis, IN office and offers a collaborative, respectful work culture within a progressive engineering firm.

What You’ll Do

1. Manage land survey projects including boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, transportation/right-of-way, topographic, utility, and construction staking.
2. Communicate professionally with clients and internal teams.
3. Direct survey crews and review their work.
4. Take ownership of project revenue and performance.
5. Prepare proposals, scopes, fees, and field files.
6. Occasional minimal travel and fieldwork.
7. Collaborate with consulting firms, INDOT staff, and local agencies.

What You Need

1. Current Professional Surveyor License in Indiana or Ohio, or ability to obtain quickly, with 1-5 years post-licensure experience.
2. Proficiency in AutoCAD/C3D; MicroStation knowledge is a plus.
3. Microsoft Office skills.
4. ODOT prequalification in Right-of-Way Engineering is a plus.
5. Knowledge of construction staking and related calculations is a plus.
6. Critical thinking, time management, and problem-solving skills.
7. Strong data analysis and organizational skills.
8. Ability to work independently and in teams.
9. High ethical standards, commitment to self-development, and a team-oriented mindset.
