Job summary

Essenti Talent is hiring a Project Manager for NCDOT heavy civil, highway, bridge, and utility work in central North Carolina. You will lead projects from preconstruction through closeout, owning budgets, schedules, cost reports, and margins, while directing field teams and coordinating with owners, engineers, inspectors, and vendors.

The role requires extensive NCDOT PM experience, proven ability to deliver projects end-to-end, and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as the Project Manager of record on heavy civil, highway, bridge or utility work for a contractor.
• Documented NCDOT project experience as the PM is required. Be ready to name the jobs.
• Must have run projects in their entirety; not a step up for an APM or Project Engineer.
• Contractor-side experience required; not suitable for consultant/inspection backgrounds.
• Strong on cost control, schedules, change orders and field team management.
• Experience with Vista and HCSS HeavyJob preferred.
• Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management preferred, or equivalent field experience.
• OSHA 30 is a plus.
• Central NC candidates preferred or relocation accepted.

Responsibilities

• Run NCDOT roadway, bridge and utility projects as the Project Manager of record from preconstruction through closeout.
• Own budget, schedule, cost reports, forecasting and margins on every project.
• Submit accurate cost and income projections and act on variances early.
• Lead field teams to hit production, quality and safety targets.
• Serve as main contact for NCDOT, owners, engineers, inspectors and vendors.
• Issue subcontracts and purchase orders and manage subcontractor performance.
• Handle change orders, pay estimates, submittals, claims and contract documentation.
• Run weekly project meetings on schedule and cost and report performance to leadership.
• Collaborate with estimating on bids and project handoff.
• Maintain a strong safety culture on each site.
