Job summary

Essenti Talent seeks a Project Manager for heavy civil/NCDOT work in Charlotte, NC, and across central North Carolina. You will manage NCDOT roadway, bridge and utility projects from preconstruction through closeout, owning budgets, schedules, and margins while leading field teams to meet scope, quality and safety goals.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years as PM of record on heavy civil or utility projects with documented NCDOT experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years as the Project Manager of record on heavy civil, highway, bridge or utility work for a contractor.
• NCDOT project experience required; be ready to name the jobs.
• Ran projects from start to finish; not a junior role (APM/Engineer).
• Contractor-side background; not consultant/inspection-only.
• Strong on cost control, schedules, change orders and field-team management.
• OSHA 30 is a plus.
• Charlotte area candidates preferred; relocation welcome.

Responsibilities

• Run NCDOT roadway, bridge and utility projects as PM of record from preconstruction through closeout.
• Own the budget, schedule, cost reports, forecasting and margin for each project.
• Submit cost/income projections and act on variances early.
• Lead superintendents, field engineers and subs to hit production, quality and safety.
• Serve as main contact for NCDOT, owners, engineers, inspectors and vendors.
• Issue subcontracts and purchase orders; manage subcontractor performance.
• Handle change orders, pay estimates, submittals and contract documentation.
• Run weekly project meetings on schedule and cost; report to leadership.
• Collaborate with estimating on bids and handoffs for start-ready jobs.
• Maintain a strong safety culture on every site.
