Job description

This opportunity is with one of New York City's most respected heavy mechanical contractors. The company specializes in large-scale wastewater and civil infrastructure - think major pumping stations, water pollution control facilities, and municipal piping systems across the five boroughs. Roughly 80-85% of their work is in that heavy civil space, with the remainder in commercial plumbing, heating, and fire protection. They work directly for NYC agencies like the DEP, large general contractors, and state and federal clients.

The company is in the middle of an aggressive growth phase with a 10-year plan to triple revenue, and they need project managers who can run complex jobs independently. The Senior Director of Operations is carrying too much of the load, and they need someone who can take real ownership of a project portfolio without needing their hand held.

What You'll Do
  • Own projects end-to-end, from setup and scheduling through execution, billing, and closeout
  • Manage project budgets, track costs, and protect margin through disciplined change order management
  • Coordinate field crews, subcontractors, and vendors to keep work on schedule and on budget
  • Lead RFI and submittal processes, ensuring timely responses and approvals
  • Maintain project schedules across JOC jobs (approximately 8 months) and longer line jobs (approximately 2.5 years)
  • Communicate proactively with clients including NYC agency representatives and general contractors
  • Build relationships with field leadership and hold the team accountable to quality and schedule
What You Bring
  • 4-10 years of experience in mechanical, plumbing, or related construction with real field exposure
  • Ability to manage complex projects in urban or infrastructure environments
  • Strong understanding of how to build a job: sequencing, manpower planning, procurement, and execution
  • Experience on public agency projects (NYC DEP, city/state/federal) is a strong plus
  • Relentless follow-through and a team-first approach
  • Degree not required - experience and character matter more
What You'll Gain
  • Competitive salary of $125,000 - $175,000 based on experience and book of work
  • 401(k) with profit sharing
  • Company investment in your professional growth and personal goals
  • A fast-moving leadership team with real ambition and the track record to back it up
  • Long-term career trajectory with a company on a strong upward path
