Job summary

J. Davis Construction, a family-owned general contractor, seeks a Project Executive to lead business development, preconstruction, client services, and project management for a designated sector. You will grow client relationships, win new work, manage budgets, and mentor teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.

The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and is based in South Carolina with office locations in Anderson, Spartanburg, or Mt. Pleasant.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive commercial construction experience with business development.
• Experience managing multiple commercial projects and leading PM teams.
• Familiarity with GMP, Lump Sum, CM at-Risk, and Design-Build delivery methods.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, and margin oversight skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and client communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development efforts and strategic client relationships to generate new work.
• Oversee preconstruction, client services, and project management for assigned sector.
• Monitor schedules, budgets, and contract compliance to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Project Executive

Location: South Carolina (Office location for position will be either in Anderson, Spartanburg or Mt. Pleasant GC Office location)
Reports To: Chief Operating Officer

Position Summary

The Project Executive leads business development, preconstruction, client services, and project management for an assigned sector at J. Davis Construction. The Project Executive is responsible for growing client relationships, winning new work, managing budgets and staff across the sector, and making sure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and with high client satisfaction. The Project Executive also mentors the team and helps build a strong, low-turnover department.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Relations

• Promotes and reinforces the company mission and core values at all times
• Develop and maintain strategic client relationships that generate new business opportunities.
• Lead project pursuits, presentations, and contract negotiations.
• Collaborate with internal teams to secure new work and expand market presence.
• Support marketing initiatives and sector growth strategies.
• Create and manage the annual business development budget to ensure resources are allocated effectively, in coordination with the Director of Business Development and COO

Project & Operations Leadership

• Provide executive oversight for commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
• Review project execution plans, schedules, budgets, and contract compliance.
• Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
• Monitor financial performance, cash flow, and client satisfaction across assigned projects.
• Support project teams with strategic guidance and problem resolution.
• Mentor, develop, and support Project Managers and operational staff.
• Foster a positive, accountable, and high-performing team culture.
• Promote company values, employee engagement, and professional growth.
• Partner with executive leadership to improve processes and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive commercial construction experience, including business development and client relationship management.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.
• Experience managing multiple commercial projects and leading project management teams.
• Strong knowledge of commercial contract delivery methods, including GMP, Lump Sum, CM at-Risk, and Design-Build.
• Demonstrated financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and margin oversight.
• Proven leadership, team development, negotiation, and risk management skills.
• Proficiency with construction management software such as Procore, Microsoft Project, or similar platforms.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and client communication skills.
