Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is a leading HVAC and Plumbing contractor based in Reston, VA, delivering award-winning projects across the region. We seek a Project Engineer to support preconstruction through turnover, working with senior PMs, superintendents, and field teams to deliver high‑quality mechanical construction.

In this role you will help plan, schedule, coordinate installations, review drawings, manage documentation, and assist with RFIs and change orders.

Qualifications

• 0–2 years of experience in commercial construction coordination or project management.
• Foundational knowledge of HVAC and plumbing systems.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Strong organizational, time management, and problem‑solving skills.
• Familiarity with project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team‑oriented environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and overall project execution.
• Assist in coordinating HVAC and plumbing installations to ensure projects remain on schedule and within budget.
• Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
• Monitor project progress and communicate updates to project managers, field teams, and clients.
• Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, and project documentation.
• Collaborate with field personnel to resolve project challenges and maintain productivity.
• Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal departments to ensure successful project delivery.
• Help ensure compliance with company safety standards, quality requirements, and project specifications.
• Support project closeout activities, including punch lists, documentation, and turnover packages.
