Job summary

Tiello is seeking a Project Engineer to support commercial construction projects in the Greater St. Louis area. You will gain hands-on experience across preconstruction, estimating, scheduling, cost forecasting, RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and closeout.

This is an early-career opportunity designed to build a well-rounded foundation and develop toward a Project Manager role through direct collaboration with PMs, superintendents, and leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field is preferred.
  • Experience with estimating, scheduling, and project cost forecasting is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs and estimating activities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and takeoff information to support cost planning.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors.
  • Prepare monthly project status reports and assist with change-order management.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred

Position Overview

The company is seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support commercial construction projects throughout the Greater St. Louis area.

This position offers exposure to the full project lifecycle, including estimating, preconstruction, project management, scheduling, cost forecasting, RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and closeout.

Rather than being limited to administrative project coordination, the Project Engineer will work closely with the project team and gain hands‑on experience across both the technical and business sides of construction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout
  • Gather information necessary to develop project estimates
  • Review project proposals, drawings, specifications, and takeoff information
  • Assist with estimating and contracting activities
  • Perform and support quantity takeoffs
  • Provide technical assistance and help interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Assist in determining appropriate construction methods and equipment
  • Support preconstruction activities and project planning
  • Assist with extra‑work estimating and change‑order preparation
  • Prepare monthly project status reports
  • Assist with project cost tracking and forecastingli>Support development and maintenance of project schedules
  • Issue and maintain Owner and Subcontract agreements
  • Manage and track RFIs and shop drawings
  • Assist with submittal management
  • Support change‑order management
  • Maintain organized and accurate project files and documentation
  • Handle day‑to‑day project correspondence
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, owners, architects, and consultants
  • Prepare project closeout documentation
  • Support the broader project team throughout the construction lifecycle
  • Take on increasing project responsibility as experience develops
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent combination of technical training and related construction experience may be considered
  • Commercial construction experience or exposure preferred
  • Construction internship or co‑op experience preferred for entry‑level candidates
  • Understanding of construction drawings and specifications
  • Exposure to estimating and quantity takeoffs preferred
  • Basic understanding of construction methods and equipment
  • Familiarity with project scheduling
  • Understanding of construction safety practices
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative project team
  • Desire to learn both preconstruction and project operations
  • Interest in taking on increasing responsibility and developing toward Project Management
  • Valid driver’s license required
