Job summary

Contegra Construction is seeking a motivated Construction Project Engineer to support the delivery of commercial, industrial, manufacturing, distribution, and design‑build projects. The role offers hands‑on experience working with Project Managers and Superintendents across budgets, schedules, documentation, and client communications.

You will gain exposure to all phases of commercial construction from preconstruction through closeout and have opportunities for mentorship and career advancement

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• 1–3 years in commercial construction or project engineering preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specs, and project documentation.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or other CM software is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supporting Project Managers from preconstruction through project closeout.
• Managing RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and project documentation.
• Assisting with scheduling, procurement, material tracking, and project coordination.
• Coordinating subcontractor communications and supporting contract administration.
• Reviewing construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Tracking project budgets, change orders, pay applications, and cost reporting.
• Participating in project meetings with owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Assisting with project planning, problem‑solving, and issue resolution throughout construction.
• Coordinating project closeout activities, punch lists, warranties, and turnover documentation.
• Visiting active construction sites to support field operations and collaborate with Superintendents.
• Maintaining accurate project documentation using construction management software.
• Fostering a collaborative team environment focused on safety, quality, and project success.
• Promoting company values, professionalism, and accountability throughout every project.

This role is ideal for an organized construction professional who wants to build a long‑term career in project management. What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Internship experience or 1–3 years of experience in commercial construction, project engineering, estimating, or a related role preferred.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Procore, Bluebeam, or other construction management software is a plus.
• A positive attitude and desire to build a long‑term career in commercial construction.

Work Location

This position is based out of our Edwardsville, IL or St. Charles, MO office with regular travel to active construction projects throughout the region.
