Job summary

A leading company in the construction industry is seeking a Project Controls Manager to oversee project control teams and ensure effective management of project costs and schedules. HDR is providing PM/CM services for the Los Angeles World Airports ATMP Landside Improvements Project. This project will deliver critical improvements to roadways, streets, and thoroughfares around LAX. HDR will manage projects through design, preconstruction, and construction phases, from inception to closeout. We are proud to lead a team of world-class professionals to shape this project, which is a key part of the infrastructure transformation ahead of the 2028 Olympics, serving millions of travelers and residents for decades to come.

In the role of Project Controls Manager, you'll be responsible for:

  1. Managing control teams across scope, cost, schedule, resource, change, and risk activities, including:
  • Interpreting, organizing, executing, and coordinating project team assignments
  • Mentoring and developing junior staff in project controls systems and best practices
  • Creating an environment for team growth, cohesiveness, productivity, recognition, and accountability
  • Developing and maintaining communication with client contacts
  • Supporting project management with cost and schedule baselines, status updates, performance evaluations, variation analysis, change management, forecasts, and reports
  • Ensuring proper resource management with functional managers
  • Preparing monthly financial and performance reports
  • Anticipating complex project control issues impacting the organization
  • Planning & Scheduling:

    • Collaborating with management to define project scope and objectives
    • Creating critical milestones for construction in tender documents
    • Analyzing project schedules with advanced Primavera P6 skills
    • Coordinating engineering and construction activities with overall schedule requirements
    • Overseeing cost estimating functions and evaluating bids

    Cost/Budget Control:

    • Evaluating manpower and labor costs against budgets

    Contract Administration:

    • Managing contract setup, maintenance, and closure
    • Collaborating with project teams through various design phases

    Integration:

    • Working closely with delivery teams to integrate project data
    • Managing project costs and schedules using EVMS
    • Leading cost and schedule risk analysis, including Monte Carlo simulations

    Document Controls:

    • Developing and maintaining document control processes and project records

    Preferred Qualifications include a BS or BA in relevant fields, 15+ years of leadership in project controls for large infrastructure projects, proficiency with project controls software, and certifications in project management, cost, and scheduling.

    Required Qualifications: A minimum of 10 years' experience in project controls on engineering and construction projects, with strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and communication skills, and a commitment to our inclusive, employee-owned culture.
