Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Technology Commercialization ( OTC ) is located within the Vice Chancellor’s Office for Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. OTC manages the University’s intellectual property including patenting, marketing and negotiating licenses for the commercialization of University owned inventions. KickStart Ventures is a division within OTC that supports faculty founded startups.
Position Summary
The Program Specialist must learn to interpret and apply OTC policies and procedures for the purpose of managing specific activities within the technology commercialization process. Duties include completing material transfer/confidentiality agreements, monitoring license compliance, processing transactions, and managing government reporting. Individuals must be able to manage their work within and maintain the technology transfer database, administer compliance scheduling, and coordinate reporting as needed. Managing invention report intake and close-out procedures, including reporting information and documentation for federal funding into iEdison and other funding agencies. Serve as the primary contact for grant verification with the Office of Sponsored Programs to confirm if investigators have inventions and if they have been reported to the sponsor. Developed and implementing the automation of certain reporting tasks between BLUE and iEdison to increase efficiency in reporting time and reduce redundancy in recorded information. Creating and maintaining compliance reports for disclosed inventions to assist Commercialization Managers in keeping records up to date and ensure compliance with Bayh Dole regulations, funding agreements, University policies, and OTC procedures. Managing daily operations of the primary office email inbox by resolving inquiries directly and raising issues to the appropriate manager or director in a timely manner for resolution
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences
Equivalent training such as paralegal certification may be substituted for experience.
