Who we are: John Knox Center was established in 1960 as a summer camp and Christian retreat. Over the years retreats expanded beyond Presbyterian congregations to other church denominations, schools, businesses & other groups. Rental guests come for retreats, team building and to participate in events year-round. In 1994, the River Ridge Environmental Education Program was founded and is now one of the most popular outdoor education locations for schools in East Tennessee. In the fall and spring, our River Ridge Environmental Education Program hosts approx. 1,500-2,000 participants each year. While these programs are popular, Summer Camp is the heart and soul of the ministry. During the summer approx. 200 campers and 15 staff come from around the world to be in a Christian community together. This small number gives us the ability to form lasting bonds with all our campers. We are a ministry of the Presbytery of East Tennessee (PCUSA). We believe EVERYONE has a place at CAMP. We welcome, affirm, and support young people and adults of all abilities and disabilities, experiences, races, ethnicities, socio-economic backgrounds, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, citizenship or immigration status, religion and non-religion, and any other category people use to define themselves or others. We hire staff who fit within this community believing camp is for everyone.

Location Information: John Knox Center is an ACA-accredited camp located in Ten Mile, TN on a beautiful 140-acre property. Site amenities include swimming, canoeing, kayaking, ropes course, archery, and hiking trails throughout the property and the best sunsets anywhere. We are nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains and boast 3.9 miles of shoreline on Watts Bar Lake (Tennessee River). We are only 45 minutes from Knoxville, TN, 2 hours from Nashville, TN & 3 hours from Asheville, NC & Atlanta, GA. 90 minutes from Great Smoky Mountains National Park. 15 minutes from the closest town (Kingston, TN).
