Job Description

The Production Supervisor- 2nd Shift oversees and leads the daily operations of the production floor, ensuring that production processes run efficiently, safely, and on schedule. This role is critical in fostering a high-performing team, driving continuous improvement through lean principles, and achieving production targets and KPIs through effective leadership and a data-driven approach.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Will include the following, but other duties may be assigned:

  • Plans, organizes, and oversees production schedules to meet and/or exceed deadlines, with a strong focus on achieving results and optimizing workflow.
  • Communicates production goals and expectations, updates, and challenges to team members, emphasizing clear communication and team motivation.
  • Ensures quality standards are met and adheres to quality policies and procedures.
  • Working closely with the Quality department, inspects and addresses product defects or discrepancies, focusing on problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Monitors production output and resolves any potential bottlenecks, delays, or inefficiencies, using a data-driven approach to identify areas for improvement.
  • Implements process improvements to optimize productivity, actively utilizing lean manufacturing concepts and methodologies.
  • Leads and motivates the production department to achieve KPIs, fostering a culture of accountability and high performance.
  • Trains, coaches, and develops staff, focusing on enhancing their skills and promoting adherence to safety and operational procedures.
  • Manages shift schedules, attendance, and job assignments to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained.
  • Provides regular and ongoing performance feedback to employees and conducts employee evaluations timely and consistent with company protocols and procedures.
  • Leading by example, promotes and encourages compliance with all workplace safety guidelines and practices.
  • Investigates and reports incidents, accidents, and near-misses, implementing corrective actions where and when applicable.
  • Prepares and/or presents various department reports regarding KPI and other department data daily, weekly, monthly, etc., utilizing data to drive decision-making and track progress.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, or a related field is preferred, but not required. An AS degree and/or previous experience will be considered in lieu of a BS degree.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing setting and in a production supervisory role is required.
  • Would prefer someone from within the rail industry and with job shop (low volume/high mix experience) experience.
  • While knowledge of custom manufacturing operations including fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, testing, and manufacturing engineering is helpful, the emphasis is on leadership and driving results.
  • Strong knowledge of and familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and methodologies is required, with a preference for practical experience in implementation. Green or black belt certification preferred.
  • Solid knowledge and experience of ERP systems required, (LN) is preferred.

  • Experience driving change, especially around culture, is paramount in this role, with a focus on fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Must be a visible and energetic leader who interacts effectively with their team and across departments, demonstrating strong soft skills and the ability to build relationships.
  • Solid problem-solving and decision-making skills are required, with a focus on a data-driven and analytical approach.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills are essential for success in this role.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, primarily Excel and PowerPoint, with a focus on data analysis and presentation.
