Job summary

Endeavors in Austin, TX seeks Shelter Support Staff to monitor residents, ensure safety, and maintain sanitation in the shelter environment.

You will oversee intake, assign beds, respond to inquiries, and coordinate with volunteers, with emphasis on professional boundaries and confidential handling.

Requires high school diploma, experience with vulnerable populations, and NIMS training; bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; degrees in related fields preferred.
• 2+ years' experience with migrant populations, child welfare, or vulnerable groups.
• Must complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) Core Curriculum Courses.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, structured environment while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Maintain positive relationships with clients and staff.
• Cover shifts reliably, work in team or alone to complete tasks.
• Handle general administrative duties as needed.
• Assist with food pantry logistics.
• Consult with supervisor on residents' needs and behavior.
• Use positive behavioral management and verbal redirection.
• Assist residents with processing issues and problem-solving.
• Monitor shelter areas for policy compliance.
• Hyper-sanitize all shelter areas.
• Respond to requests, complaints, inquiries.
• Address violations and guide residents toward compliance.
• Conduct orientation, assist intake, assign beds/lockers, issue supplies.
• Brief and guide volunteers/staff.
• Teach good personal hygiene.
• Maintain boundaries at all times.
• Learn policies; perform other duties as directed.
